Game 7 Sleeping Bears

$0.99

The ten-frame sequel to Game 1, with a recording sheet. Partners hide bears and write the number sentence for every combination of 10 they find.

Description

How it works

Played like Sleeping Bears, but with all ten bears and a recording sheet. One partner hides some bears in the cave and sets the rest on the ten frame; the other works out how many are asleep. The difference here is the writing — every round gets recorded as a number sentence, so a child moves through all the combinations of 10 and leaves with a written record of them.

What you’ll need

  • A ten frame (the Game 1 board works)
  • Ten plastic bears or counters
  • A cup or bowl for the cave
  • The printable Sleeping Bears recording sheet

Skills practiced

All combinations that make 10, part-part-whole reasoning, and moving from a physical arrangement to written notation.

Grade level

Kindergarten through 2nd grade. Ask for the whole fact family for each combination and the same game stretches comfortably into 2nd grade.
